Autumn, fall automne, whichever way you spell or picture it, this is a time of reflection. Of gathering the fruits of our summer practice to nourish ourselves and share with others.
In this issue of The Wave we read of the nourishment provided by the visits of Fr. Joe and Yogiji, of the peaceful, welcoming home ground of non-duality, of the rewards of teaching yoga to teens and share some Buddhist insights from an old friend, Frank Jude Boccio. What an inspiring harvest. Yogic sustenance as Yoga Atlantic develops and deepens a creative vision for our sangha.
A Vision for the Future
by Jo-Ann D'Alfonso
As appointed Chairperson my first initiative is to strengthen the Yoga Atlantic Board and ad-hoc committees, inviting motivated and creative members to help the association move forward in developing a new vision for the association to support our intention of making yoga known and integrative for all. For me a clear vision is the way to making things happen.
On September 12, members and friends of the association got together to decide if the association was needed and what it meant to them. It was apparent that to engage the association in moving forward we needed more Board members and other involved people for a clear representation of our Sangha.
The questions presented by facilitator Yvonne Mosley, long time yoga teacher and media producer, were: Do we need an association? If yes why and what does it mean to you? What ideas engage, inspire, and move us to create Yoga Atlantic in which we, the community, are united in our multitudinous differences? What can Yoga Atlantic accomplish through the collective inspiration of its members?
The Yoga Atlantic Society envisions its capability to serve as a supportive organization for the continual transformational process of the association itself, its members, and the community at large.
The meeting was a great success. People who attended were curious and interested in making things happen. You can read Participants' Input on our website, with information about some of our ad-hoc committees. I would like to welcome our first two additional Board members, Mike Munro, returned board member, and Helen Fong. The minutes of the meeting are available to read on our website by clicking here.
A big tip of the hat for all those who came ready to fully participate and a huge thank you to Maryse Thuot for organizing the Kirtan and to her partner Pierre and the Khrisnas for making it such an enjoyable experience.
In continuation with this transformational process of the community, Yoga Atlantic is excited to announce that we will hold a day long festival in the New Year in Halifax. The intention will be to offer all members and non-members, families and friends, a day of celebration. Much more information will be forwarded in the very near future. We are looking forward to the same opportunity for New Brunswick coming this spring! Details will be communicated via the Yoga Atlantic email list. If you are a member of Yoga Atlantic and have not been receiving YA emails, please contact info [at] yogaatlantic [dot] ca for assistance.
Yoga Atlantic has some great volunteer opportunities available. For more information, check out the Announcements.
On a final note, Yoga Atlantic is pleased to announce that the Yoga Atlantic Association is a proud sponsor of the new Yoga TV show, The Path of Yoga seen on EastlinkTV (channel 10) every morning at 7:00am. The Path of Yoga is also shown at 1:30pm, 4-5 days/week. There are also plans to have this show on “Eastlink on Demand”. Thank you to all the Teachers who participated in this project to help promote and offer free yoga to our community.
