300 Hour SATORI Yoga Teacher Training ~ the Yin & Yang of Modern Yoga

The mission of the SATORI Yoga Teacher Training program is to provide a space where avid yoga students and aspiring Yoga teachers can explore the depths of their physical, mental and spiritual yoga practice; guiding them along their path towards SATORI - moments of enlightenment.  We offer quality instruction with knowledgeable and experienced Yoga teachers, leaving students with the capacity to both practice and teach safe, effective yoga practices for students of all demographics.  A strong emphasis is placed on anatomy and physiology, particularly on skeletal variation; allowing the teacher and student to understand how to make the yoga postures fit them, rather than making their bodies fit the posture.

In establishing the first 300 hour Yin & Yang Yoga Teacher Training program in Canada, it is our goal to offer you 200 hours of unique instruction in the YANG methodology of a Hatha Vinyasa Yoga practice, strongly influenced by the Kripalu lineage.  In the following 100 hours, you will receive extensive training in YIN Yoga, as influenced by the teachings of Paul & Suzee Grilley, and Paulie Zink, the founder of Taoist Yoga.  Here you will come to understand the full capacity of your anatomical variation, and how knowledge of both YIN and YANG Yoga formulates a balanced Yoga practice for yourself and your students.

The SATORI Yoga Teacher Training program is accredited through the Yoga Alliance at the 200 hour level.  Since they do not accredit 300 base trainings, they accredit the 200 with SATORI as a Registered Yoga School, and the 100 hours of Yin training is recognized as continuing eductation credits.  Your training is still a complete 300 hour teacher training, and the 100 hours of Yin Yoga can be applied to future 500 hour advanced Yoga teacher training programs offered through SATORI.

We accept a maximum number of twelve students into our program, and we are currently FULL for the 2010 program.  We are taking applications for the 2011 program at this time.  If you are interested in receiving an information packet, please contact me via email at enlighten [dot] satori [at] gmail [dot] com

Joe say’s that Mother Teresa is his left hand and BKS Iyengar is his right. He travels internationally each fall to raise money for his addiction recovery and AIDS centres across India. Fr. Joe regards yoga as a spiritual practice and believes it supports all faiths as it aims to open us to the spirit of God as Fr. Joe would say “the God of your understanding” that resides in all people, Hindus might call this the Atman. His yoga workshops are very physical but still he has this to say about it “I don’t want to judge” say’s Fr. Joe “but I think if you do yoga without spiritual language and perspective it just turns into gymnastics”.

Instructor(s):
Jean Short is a 500-hour Certified Yoga Instructor in the Kripalu tradition and has been teaching for ten years. She is the owner of Gentle Path Yoga Studio in Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia. She instructs all levels of hatha yoga and is passionate about teaching Yoga for Seniors. Seven years ago, she undertook a transformational 14-week Spiritual Lifestyle Program at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, in Lenox, Massachusetts. In January 2006 she participated in a week long SAYCO (Silver Age Yoga Community Outreach) workshop in San Diego, with facilitators Roger Cole and many other medical specialists/yoga practitioners. She spent the following summer creating this workshop, and has had participation from Newfoundland to Alberta. She has just returned from a Restorative Yoga Workshop with Judith Lasater. She is grateful for all her students and yoga teachers, especially Paula Heitzner, Nyack NY who taught her that the body is a miracle, Jody Myers, Frith Silver, and Isha Ward who helped her connect to her spirit. Recommendation "I liked the breadth and scope of this workshop very much. I arrived feeling very nervous about teaching seniors, but am leaving with confidence that I will be able to create classes that can help seniors lead healthier lives. The yoga sessions were informative and helpful, and Jean’s teaching, guidance and ability to lead the class into this new territory is wonderful. Her obvious love of what she is doing transmitted itself to us all – this was informative, immensely helpful, and most enjoyable. I wouldn’t change a thing. Dianne MacPhee P.S. I very much appreciate the wonderful manual and all the helpful hints.

YOGA AND BELLYDANCING

Bellydance is an art form that has existed from between 4000BC and 500 BC known by many different names, practiced in a multitude of forms in every continent of the world. Men, women and children of all ages, of all different shapes and sizes from different cultures and at different times of history have practiced bellydance as part of their culture and heritage. The benefits of bellydance are well worth the effort for relieving fatigue, energizing your body, mind and spirit! The movements are powerful and hypnotic! The more energized movements are beneficial for people with depression and or anxiety disorders. Bellydance can enhance your self confidence with the same intentions we bring to our yoga practice.
